Pavel Knolle was born in Nový Bor and studied at the Dance Conservatory in Prague. After graduating he joined dance company Laterna Magika, where he danced as a soloist in all performances. In the early 90s he co-founded with choreographer David Slobašpyckým ballet group the Prague Festival Ballet, with whom he participated in several tours abroad (USA, Portugal, China, and Turkey). He danced as a guest at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (The Pied Piper, Romeo and Juliet, choreography: P. Šmok) and at the Ballet company of National Theatre in Prague (Mozart? Mozart!, choreography: P. Zuska).
He also designs costumes and scenery for dance and ballet productions (Laterna Magika, Prague Chamber Ballet, the National Theatre Brno, F. X. Šalda Theatre, National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, North Bohemian Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Ústí nad Labem, South Bohemian Theatre etc.).
In 2002 he was nominated for the Thalia Award for his performance in duet Les Bras de Mer (choreography: P. Zuska, within the production Graffiti) and won the Award of Czech republic Dance Association.
Since 2010, he has become an artistic director of Laterna Magika, newly affiliated under the National Theatre in Prague.
