Maria’s Dream is a magically playful and comic piece of work with humorous qualities inspired by the bizarre dream of the ageing Maria Taglioni, one of the most famous ballerinas of the romantic era. Zuskas piece was created to famous music scores such as Pas de quatre by Cesara Pugniho and Dying Swan by Camilla Saint-Saënse. Petr Zuska has developed a story based on the principals of romanticism and its values which focused on the beauty and serenity of the female form of the ballerina and turned it on its head. The ballerina is accompanied by four men and through Zuska’s choreography, they are spurred on to dance.
